Barcamp: Please vote

Well I'm a last minute guy. So I'll be prepping my presentation probably tonight :-) Anyway I'm wondering what you people would like to hear:

  1. Everything is in the details (how important are details in your online application)
    -- details give people stories
    -- details make you pretty
-- better do 1 thing really really good
-- details on each level of development
  2. Living with your personal agent (Smartphone)
  3. User Generated Content vs. User Generated Crap
  4. 10 ideas for Belgian startups, completely free !!
  5. The building blocks of the web (widgets, web services, amazon S3, ...)
  6. Something different ... suggestions.

Please vote in the comments.

Presentation IAB: one in a million

Presentation on slideshare.

A bit late maybe, but here is the presentation I gave together with Gunter Boutsen of Fishtank.

Gmail commercial

I love gmail, I use it every day. But this movie of the gmail folks, well, it sucks !! :-)

Web 2.0-ish communities

Community guidlines - a mish mash of tips and interesting theories. A lot of this theories are directly copied from Tom Coates his presentation at the future of web apps. So credit goes to him. But his slides are simply so true and so valuable I couldn't have let them out. I hope you don't mind, Tom...

My Barcamp Podcast

Alice & Irène podcasted my presentation at Barcamp that I did almost 2 months ago. I should have prepared my presentation better, I'm a bit embarrassed for my bad English. But it was a great exercise and I got some interesting feedback, so it was a positive experience. - The podcast (mp3) - The presentation (pdf) More on the subject in My Thesis category and of course the paper itself. Thanks Alice and Irène !

Final thesis presentations Communication & Multimedia Design

Last week thursday and friday my classmates, including Jesse, presented their final master thesis and final thesis projects. It was a very big day for all of them, marking the end of their four year academic journey at C-MD. During those years everyone has developed their own personal area's of interest in the wide environment of Communication & Multimedia Design and this reflects in the choice of subjects. They can broadly be placed in four research categories: social media, experience design, interactive story telling & media access. Yesterday we received the news that all of them have passed. "Applying game mechanics to functional software" by AJK

Amy Jo Kim, social architect (I like that term), has given an interesting presentation at Etech. This is probably not that recent, but I only stumbled upon it today. She has interesting slides how we can use game mechanics to encourage interaction in social software. A set of 5 simple rules that can be applied and are already used in a lot of social software:
  1. Collecting
  2. Earning points
  3. Feedback
  4. Exchanges
  5. Customization
We-make-money-not-art gives a nice round-up of the presentation. Links:

Branded User experiences

Teknision is a branded application company, they are the creators of the site I linked yesterday: "Update Hollywood". Paolo hinted me to the presentation of his company in a comment: How marketers can use rich internet applications to build their brands? (video + powerpoint) Interesting talk...
Hey, had a client send me a link to your blog, we actually are the company that developed the front end of Update Hollywood, here is a link to a presentation that we did on user experience and our spin on it. Gabor Vida, our President did the presentation to local businesses in our area. http://www.teknision.com/zone5ive/ check it out.
Thanks for the feedback Paolo.
