Just to break the silence

Nick of mouseover.be asked me to write a guest post in the category marketing. You can read it at the brand new mouseover.be. Congrats with the new site guys!

Worldcup WEB 2.0, finished

During the worldcup we played a game over at Pickdee. You had to predict the score of each match. At times it was pretty exciting and made a match more fun to watch. In the end a good friend of me, Frank (rkid006) won the game. Congrats.

I mailed the guys over at Pickdee if they were going to expand the games. And good news, they included the Belgian Jupiler League in their games. It would be great if a brand like for example Jupiler would support Pickdee and make their own minisite around the Pickdee Jupiler League. For Pickdee I suggest providing some RSS feeds for the scoreboard and the matches, so their data can be integrated in other sites. Jupiler don't need to provide any functionality just a minisite to drive traffic to their Pickdee Jupiler League game. I believe strongly in the power of good partners in a WEB 2.0 environment.

Monetizing - Flickr and Nikon Marketing mashup

Nikon and Flickr just teamed up for an interesting marketing campaign. You can tag photos "nikonstunninggallery" and maybe they integrate your photos in their gallery. Well that's not all, if you don't have a paid flickr account you'll be shown little icons on photos taken with a nikon camera. I actually like the idea of this. Of course the icon should not be obtrusive and only for the free accounts. But if you think about it, it is a great idea. Of course, the better the photo, the better the ad will work. Flickr should however find a way to reward its users that publish such beautiful photos, that bring Flickr more ad revenue. Normally paid members photos' are ad free. Flickrs' user generated content is becoming so strong that it has become a very good place for targeted advertisements. Motivate your users to publish quality content, reward them for publishing quality content, take all the money!! Content, content, content is everything a marketeer wants these days. Isn't it ? Admit it ! :)
