Wildcard: Tanzania
November 28th, 2008
Damn, I missed the first episode of Wildcard: Tanzania on CANVAS… And I have to admit, they have a nice and complete site: a blog, a nice interactive map, some video clips, … But why oh why don’t they put the full version of the episode online? Can someone explain that to me?
Paper prototyping
June 20th, 2007
During a workshop last year I completely fell in love with paper prototyping. Making a rough paper interface is such a fast and easy way to build software or a website, test it with users, get feedback from stakeholders and improve it extremely fast early on. All you need is pen and paper so you can easily build the interfaces sitting in the sun enjoying a Duvelke, without getting sidetracked with a zillion PhotoShop possibilities and only focusing on the basics: the structure, content and interaction.
Here’s a nice (Dutch) video giving an overview of the process.
I’ve been around in a few web design and interactive agencies and I was surprised to see that this technique isn’t used more often. It can help get an interactive project on track from the beginning and function as a clear guideline for the design and development teams. Why isn’t it used more often? Maybe clients like to see pretty screens of the interface instead of rough amateurish looking sketches?
Big Bill & Stevie Jobs
June 1st, 2007
Bill & Steve go way back. They basically shaped the computer industry of today, they both are multi-millionairs, but still they are very passionate about there company and the products/software they make. I find that inspiring.
After all those years there lives a kind of mutual respect between them, but they stay competitors.

Youtube video conversation
August 14th, 2006
A 79 year old silver surfer is addicted to Youtube. He posts his first video blog asking for for some help and encouragement and tells us what he’ll mostly do on his blog is “bitch and grumble about life in general in the perspective of an old man”. Euhrm, fun. About a week later there are 178 video responses (!) by other youtube users and 6409 text responses.
I didn’t think of youtube yet as a video blogging and conversation platform. What I use it mostly for, and most people I guess, is to watch funny clips and old tv shows, but it seems that there’s a whole lot of videoblogging and conversations going on. I did a search to see if some other people had noticed this and the Technology Evangelist had a post up ‘Youtube Becoming a User Contributes Video Blogging Platform‘. They say that if all the copyrighted material should be deleted from youtube because of legal reasons, the site will still be a huge success because of the thriving videoblogging community. Youtube is an ideal latform for starting video dialogs because they host the video for you, provide easy schmeazy upload features and allready have a very active community.

A computer network called “internet”
July 28th, 2006
“There’s a revolution going on in rec rooms, offices and classrooms around the world. A revolution in which 15 million people are taking part [..] through a computer network called “internet”.
Hihi. A pretty funny tv report from 1993 on the emergent internet. Who could’ve guessed back then that it would get this big?
